The January transfer window is a chance for clubs to course correct, and to make emergency adjustments at the midway point in the season, but so often it is a fraught market. Need can often overtake value, but Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are involved in two of the most successful deals of 2026 so far.
According to Diario AS, the most impactful signing of the January transfer window in terms of goal contributions is Endrick Felipe’s loan move to Olympique Lyon from Real Madrid. The 19-year-old forward has scored six times and given five assists in his 14 appearances. Although there has been some disgruntlement that Endrick was not available during Kylian Mbappe’s injury issues, Los Blancos will no doubt be relieved that Endrick appears to have found his spark again.
The hope at the Bernabeu is that it will be sufficient to get him into Brazil’s World Cup squad this summer, which was Endrick’s motivating factor for an exit. He impressed during a cameo appearance this week for Carlo Ancelotti, his first Brazil cap in over a year.
Across town, the signing of Ademola Lookman for €35m from Atalanta was the headline deal in Spain in the January window. Atletico Madrid confirmed the deal on deadline day, and since has been a major factor for Diego Simeone. The Nigerian international is second behind only Endrick in terms of his impact on the scoresheet. Lookman has five goals and four assists in his 14 appearances.
Those include goals against Barcelona and Real Madrid, and Lookman got on the scoresheet in both the quarter-final and semi-final of the Copa del Rey, as Atletico look to lift the trophy this month. Lookman is actually averaging a better goal contribution strike rate (84.5 minutes) than Endrick (101 minutes) too.
