Stats: Barcelona forward shows remarkable change under Flick as compared to Xavi

There is no longer any doubt that Ferran Torres has undergone a complete transformation under Hansi Flick.

The version of the Spaniard now playing as the number nine for Barcelona bears little resemblance to the Ferran who once played under Xavi Hernandez.

The difference lies in his role. Under Xavi, Ferran was largely restricted to the wings, while Flick has trusted him to operate through the middle, as a pure striker.

That tactical switch has completely reshaped his numbers and confidence.

Following his recent goal against Elche, the former Manchester City forward reached an impressive milestone – his 50th goal for Barcelona

What makes the achievement particularly fascinating is how evenly that total is split: 25 goals under Xavi and 25 under Flick.

Yet, when one looks deeper, the contrast is staggering.

Looking at his numbers

Under Xavi, it took Ferran 113 matches to reach 25 goals. Under Flick? Just 57 games, which is less than half the number of appearances.

When Xavi was in charge, Ferran’s deployment across the front line varied.

He featured 59 times on the left wing, where he scored 12 goals, played 20 games as a striker with 5 goals, and 34 games on the right wing, where he netted 8 times.

While he contributed steadily, he never quite looked like a consistent finisher.

Flick, however, has redefined his place in the squad. Since taking over, the attacker has been primarily used as a central forward, as 30 of his 57 appearances under the German have come in that position, yielding 14 goals.

He has also played 19 games on the left wing and 8 on the right, scoring 10 and 1 goals respectively.

Ferran now ranks 51st on Barcelona’s all-time scorers list, surpassing none other than Thierry Henry.

For a player once doubted and even linked with an exit, Ferran’s resurgence under Flick is a powerful reminder of what can happen when talent meets trust and tactical clarity.
