Stefan de Vrij has joined Panathinaikos on a free transfer, signing a one-year contract, the club announced. The 34-year-old arrives after a successful spell at Inter Milan.
He had been linked with Benfica during this window, but no agreement was reached and he will continue his career in Greece.
Developed at Feyenoord, the Netherlands international has played nearly 650 games for club and country. He has 79 caps and featured at several major tournaments, notably the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2024.
Panathinaikos will be the fourth senior club of his career, following Feyenoord, Lazio and Inter. In Milan he won 10 trophies, including three Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia titles and four Supercoppa Italiana titles.
Last season with Inter he made 17 appearances, 11 in Serie A, three in the Champions League, two in the Coppa Italia and one in the Supercoppa Italiana. Across 1,196 minutes, he did not score.
He was valued at three million euros.
