Steven Nzonzi agrees in principle with Dunkerque over Ligue 2 move

Steven Nzonzi has reached an agreement in principle with Dunkerque, paving the way for an unexpected return to France. The duration of the deal has not yet been disclosed.

According to L'Équipe, the 2018 World Cup winner, aged 37, has agreed to take on a Ligue 2 stint and is a free agent after leaving Stoke City in early July.

He played 31 times last season in England, 30 in the Championship with 17 starts, plus one FA Cup appearance.

Nzonzi previously featured in Ligue 2 with Amiens in 2008-2009, then played in Ligue 1 with Rennes on loan between 2019 and 2021, making it five years since his last spell in France.

The midfielder has 20 caps for France.
