Stones signing could scupper Romero-Inter Milan deal for Tottenham | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero has been signalling that he wants out of the project for a while now, and it seems he might leave this summer.

Inter Milan are interested in the Spurs star, who has been offered to a number of clubs.

However, per Gazzetta dello Sport, his move to the Italian side could be scuppered by their signing of John Stones. They have distanced themselves from Romero

After getting the Englishman on a free transfer, they are happy to wait till Tottenham cannot find any suitors for Romero before making their move.

The Serie A champions could still revive their interest in his services, but they are under no pressure to hand Spurs the big money that they will likely demand for Romero.

The 28-year-old again proved why he is one of the best in the world, helping the Argentine national team to reach the final of the 2026 World Cup.

Spurs have already strengthened their rearguard, adding Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul Van Hecke, although it meant letting go of highly rated youngster Luka Vuskovic.

Add that to Kevin Danso and Micky Van de Ven and Tottenham looked refreshed at the back ahead of the new season.

The North London club can afford to sell Romero, although it remains unclear which suitor will step forward with a worthwhile bid for his services.

Any money recouped from the sale of Romero should go towards rebuilding other areas like defensive midfield, left wing, and centre-forward.

Spurs could use a natural holding midfielder to add more bite and grit in the engine room, properly shielding their new-look defence.

A new left-winger is also a must as they never properly replaced Son Heung-Min. Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert have struggled to fill his boots.

Also, Tottenham need a new centre-forward to provide serious competition for Dominic Solanke up top.

The Englishman has struggled since his £65 million switch, and manager Roberto De Zerbi needs a more competent marksman leading the lines.
