There were a handful of surprise absentees as RC Strasbourg Alsace faced RC Lens on Friday night. Gary O’Neil explained why and provided a potentially worrying update on Chelsea loanee Aarón Anselmino.
“Ben Chilwell didn’t recover from illness in time,” began O’Neil in a press conference attended by Get French Football News. “Hopefully, he will be good for Tuesday (Coupe de France quarter-final versus Stade de Reims). Samuel Amo-Ameyaw suffered a concussion; he’ll be back on Tuesday. Aaron has an ‘awareness’ in the same hamstring that caused him problems during his loan at Borussia Dortmund. David Datro Fofana suffered a contact to his thigh in training, and he had a swollen knee. All of the injuries are small ones, but with Aarón, we’ll need to check.”
Anselmino has made only two short substitute appearances since making the move to Strasbourg in January. His loan was to compensate for the departure of Mamadou Sarr, who was recalled by parent club Chelsea.
