Stuttgart outpace Hoffenheim in race for Feyenoord’s Leo Sauer, €12.5m deal nears completion | OneFootball

VfB Stuttgart are poised to sign Feyenoord winger Leo Sauer after winning a head-to-head transfer battle with Bundesliga rivals Hoffenheim. This is presently confirmed by virtually all reliable German footballing media sources. Multiple reports claim that Stuttgart have reached an agreement worth €12.5m plus bonuses for the 20-year-old. Sauer is expected to sign a contract through 2031 once he completes his medical examination.

The development constitutes a rapid shift in the race for the Slovak international. As noted in previous Get German Football News coverage, Hoffenheim had already reached a verbal agreement with Sauer after turning their attention away from Red Bull Salzburg attacker Adam Daghim. Stuttgart subsequently entered the race and have now surpassed every offer submitted by the Sinsheimers.

Why Stuttgart want Leo Sauer

Stuttgart’s interest extends beyond simply adding another promising attacker. The club wish to avoid repeating last summer’s frantic search for a replacement after Nick Woltemade completed a late move to Newcastle United.

Bilal El Khannouss and Jamie Leweling may attract significant offers before the transfer window closes. Sauer therefore supplies insurance across both wings and behind the striker while also strengthening Sebastian Hoeneß’ squad immediately.

The technically gifted attacker recorded four goals and two assists across 29 Feyenoord appearances last season. His speed, close control and ability to identify space between defensive lines render him an attractive option.

Sauer’s arrival does not end Stuttgart’s pursuit of Wolfsburg striker Dzenan Pejcinovic. The supervisory board has reportedly approved funds for both deals, with Stuttgart preparing a package exceeding €22m for Pejcinovic.

That approval comes with a condition. Stuttgart must still generate significant transfer income this summer, leaving El Khannouss and Angelo Stiller among the most obvious sale candidates.

Provided the medical presents no complications, Sauer will become the first half of an ambitious attacking double move.
