Wilson Isidor is set to be a man in demand this summer, with the Sunderland striker already said to be the target of a number of Premier League sides.

Representatives from Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace were said to be impressed with the forward’s performance against Leeds United on Monday night, with rumours of a move to the top flight already abounding after a sensational start to life on Wearside.

Whilst Leeds United are also said to have a keen interest in the 24-year-old forward, as per TeamTalk.

After initially joining on loan from Zenit St Petersburg last summer, the Frenchman made the move to the Stadium of Light permanent in the winter, having already netted 12 times in 30 Championship appearances for Regis Le Bris’ side.

With that in mind, we asked Football League World’s Sunderland fan pundit Jordan Newcombe about the rumours linking their striker with a move away.

Wilson Isidor talk begins as Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace track Sunderland striker

Isidor hasn’t taken long to make a name for himself in the English game, and looks to be well worth every penny of the reported £5 million that Sunderland splashed out near the end of the transfer window to make him theirs on a permanent basis.

The frontman just oozes class when leading the line for the Black Cats, with his movement and footballing brain a level above much of what he comes up against in the second tier, with a run of seven goals in the eleven games since Christmas proving as much.

The 24-year-old got his customary strike in front of the onlooking Premier League scouts on Monday night at Elland Road, as his run in the channel proved profitable once again.

Having been picked out after finding half a yard, the forward left Ethan Ampadu high and dry before powering home a strike off the far post, in just the latest example of his top tier ability.

His qualities aren’t up for discussion with Newcombe, who believes the Mackem machine is destined to be playing in the top flight before too long.

When asked about the interest in Isidor, the Sunderland fan said: “Now this is a thing about when players get watched by specific teams. Isidor could probably do well at most of those clubs, if I am being perfectly honest.

“Tottenham just don’t really get good strikers in, which leads them to be absolutely woeful, other than Mathys Tel who they have just got in, although he still needs to adapt to the playing style and the team and might not even do it.

“So with other teams watching Isidor, I do think he is a good match for the Premier League and I do think he has that level.

“For me it would be for a team tenth and below just to start off with. I am not saying that is forever in the Premier League, he obviously has to adapt to the Premier League style and the fast buildup during the games.”

Bullish Sunderland Premier League stance made as Wilson Isidor rumours arise

Isidor’s goals have been crucial in keeping Sunderland in the race for Championship promotion this season, with his contributions earning plenty of points across the course of the campaign to date.

Winning goals against Sheffield United and Portsmouth at the start of the calendar year have continued the momentum in the north east, as well as contributing to wins over Middlesbrough and Luton Town in February as the race for the top carries on.

While they sit eight points away from the Blades in the final automatic promotion spot right now, Newcombe believes Isidor can be the man to take his side back to the top flight, and with it put any rumours of a move away to bed after signing a three-and-a-half-year deal a matter of weeks ago.

He continued: “I do think he will be a good player in the Premier League, he has the ability to be a good player for Palace, Wolves, Brentford or even Bournemouth… but most certainly for Sunderland, I’ll tell you that for free.

“For him to be in the Premier League would be a good thing, but just not for any of the clubs there.

“If I were him I would not entertain any of those if they bring offers to the table, he is dedicated to the club and proved that by signing a permanent deal.

”That just shows where his loyalty lies and that is with Sunderland so far.”
