Sunderland and Forest ‘to face’ Saudi fight for Serie A target, Balogun latest | OneFootball

Sunderland and Nottingham Forest could face Saudi Pro League competition for a Serie A defender, while a fresh line has emerged on Folarin Balogun’s future.

Il Resto del Carlino reports that Sunderland and Forest are among the clubs showing interest in Bologna centre-back Jhon Lucumi, with Inter and Juventus also keen as he enters the final 12 months of his deal.

The outlet adds that Juventus tried to include youngster Vasilije Adzic to reduce the fee, but Bologna are unwilling to soften their demands. It is claimed Lucumi will prioritise talks to remain in Italy, and that Al-Hilal are also interested.

Sunderland have made one addition so far, with Belgium international Thomas Meunier signing a two-year contract after leaving Lille. With Europa League football ahead for the first time in the club’s history, Regis Le Bris wants further signings but says this summer should be more targeted than last year’s 14-player overhaul.

Le Bris has indicated the plan is for around six or seven arrivals, stressing the market is slow and that patience is preferable to rushing decisions.

El Mundo Deportivo claims Sunderland and Borussia Dortmund are providing very interesting options for Monaco striker Balogun, following previous links with Juventus. The 25-year-old has two years left on his Monaco contract and is valued at over £50m by the Ligue 1 club.
