In a recent report, journalist Mark Brus mentioned that Sunderland are facing stiff competition for Monaco striker Folarin Balogun. It has been claimed that the Black Cats would have to rival Aston Villa, Everton, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest in the race to sign the United States forward this summer.
Balogun had a productive campaign in Ligue 1 recently as he put in a run of impressive displays for Monaco in the final third. The 24-year-old scored 19 times and picked up five assists in 43 matches for the French club last season on all fronts.
The United States international is currently among the most talented forwards in Ligue 1. Therefore, the Black Cats would do well to win the race for his services later this year.
His current contract at the French club will run out in the summer of 2028, so Sunderland would have to make a big offer if they want to stand a chance of recruiting him this off-season.

Balogun is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes on the offensive end of the pitch and is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet.
The United States sensation can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League if the Black Cats manage to snap him up later this year.
Balogun would undoubtedly bring more firepower to Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris’ attack. He is good enough to fight for a regular first-team place at the Wearside club in the coming seasons.
At 24, Balogun has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a decent choice for the Black Cats to consider later this year. He is good enough to help Sunderland compete for a top-half finish in the upcoming Premier League campaign. All in all, he would be well worth the fight, so Le Bris should focus on stepping up his efforts to sign him soon.
