In a recent post on X, journalist Luca Cilli mentioned that Sunderland are in pole position to land Sassuolo defender Tarik Muharemović. It has been claimed that the Black Cats would have to compete with Bournemouth in the race to sign the Bosnian centre-back this summer.

Muharemovic’s Impressive Form In Italian Football

Muharemovic enjoyed a good run of form at the Italian club in the previous campaign when he put in a series of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The 23-year-old found the back of the net twice and earned two assists in 33 appearances for Sassuolo last season in all competitions.

The Bosnian talent is currently among the most talented central defenders in the Premier League. Hence, the Black Cats would do well to bring him on board later this year.

His current contract at Sassuolo will expire in the summer of 2031, which could make it tough for Sunderland to sign him on a cut-price deal this off-season.

Should Sunderland Boss Regis Le Bris Move In For Muharemovic?

Muharemovic is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the offensive and can use his strong 1.92m frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his team.

The Bosnian sensation can even contribute by scoring and creating the odd goal for his team. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League if the Black Cats manage to get him on board this summer.

We can expect Muharemovic to bring more bite and steel to Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris’ defensive department. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at the Wearside club in the coming seasons.
