Dennis Cirkin will leave Sunderland when his contract expires later this month, with the club expected to publish their retained list within the next week as preparations for 2026/27 begin.
The full-back joined from Tottenham Hotspur in summer 2021 and has made over 125 appearances across five years. He was integral in ending the club’s League One stay, then helped secure a Premier League return with last season’s Championship play-off final win over Sheffield United.
The 24-year-old featured only eight times in the top flight last season, with three starts under Regis Le Bris, who guided the Black Cats into the Europa League.
The player said in a post that representing Sunderland more than 100 times had been a privilege, thanking supporters for their passion, loyalty and weekly noise. He spoke of remembering the heart of the community and the feeling of a city behind one team, and of arriving a boy chasing a dream before leaving with the place close to him.
Cirkin is one of several Sunderland players facing key decisions this summer, with others out of contract and some entering the final 12 months of their deals.
