Sunderland defender Jess Brown has signed a new one-year contract with the club.

The Lady Black Cats announced the news via a post on their official club website earlier today.

The 22-year-old is Sunderland’s longest serving player. She joined their Regional Talent Club (RTC) in 2014 before progressing up to the first team. Brown has made 144 appearances for Sunderland in all competitions while she has scored six goals.

Brown broke into the Sunderland side during their spell in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division and she helped the club successfully win promotion to Barclays WSL2 via the ‘upward club movement’ process towards the end of the COVID pandemic. The defender has continued to progress in the second tier and she was a member of the Sunderland side that narrowly missed out on promotion to the top tier in 2023/2024.

Brown is Sunderland through and through and she will now represent the club for at least one more year.

After signing on again with the Wearsiders, Brown said “I’m absolutely delighted to extend my stay at the club for another year. Sunderland has become my home, and the support I’ve received from everyone at the club, especially the fans, has meant so much to me and my family.

“Representing this club is a privilege I never take for granted. I can’t wait to continue giving everything I have for the badge, and I’m looking forward to next season.”

In other news, forward Eleanor Dale has left Sunderland. The club had offered her a new deal but she has opted for a fresh challenge.
