Sunderland supporters have delivered a largely glowing verdict on the new 1937-inspired home kit after Tuesday’s unveiling, with its heritage look and black socks widely praised.

According to Sunderland Echo, Hummel’s design nods to the 1937 FA Cup winners and features red and white stripes, a button-up collar and a retro crest. It goes on sale at 8am on Wednesday.

Fans applauded the club and manufacturer for embracing history, with some calling the shirt a masterpiece and ranking it among Hummel’s best since the brand returned to Wearside.

The collar emerged as a standout detail, drawing consistent approval. Others noted the pop-button approach and felt the overall look was a decent step.

Several suggested it might even pip the popular Championship home shirt, dubbing the latest effort another Hummel banger. Some felt it could become an all-time classic.

The return of black shorts and socks also landed well, with supporters saying the kit would look brilliant under the lights, including against Italian opposition in Europe.

Not everyone was convinced. One fan said the crest should have matched the original 1937 blue, while another felt the badge spoiled the design and preferred last season’s kits.
