Sunderland met The Red & White Army this week to address widespread frustration with the club’s ticketing. According to Sunderland Echo, talks covered season-ticket renewals and the handling of recent cancellations.
Club representatives, including interim chief executive Tom Burwell, recognised the need to improve and will contact supporters who faced issues in the renewal process. Affected fans are to be approached directly.
While 96% renewed for the 2026/27 campaign, some encountered serious problems. Long-standing season-ticket holders were told they could not return to general admission as corporate hospitality prices rose. Anyone declining to renew corporate seats faced the back of a 15,000 waiting list.
RAWA had urged a pause to renewals amid widespread difficulties and voiced disappointment at the lack of a final response. After this week’s meeting, the club accepted that further changes were required and set a target of 5pm on Tuesday 12 May to contact those affected with a solution. Work with supporter groups on ticketing improvements will continue.
In March, 65 tickets for the Tyne-Wear derby were cancelled following what was described as a serious and exceptional case of ticket misuse. Those involved accepted the misuse and action followed, while some fans were caught up through no fault of their own.
