Sunderland ‘in advanced talks’ for Toulouse left back Dayann Methalie | OneFootball

RMC reports Sunderland are in advanced talks with Toulouse over left back Dayann Methalie and have an agreement with the 20-year-old.

The Toulouse defender featured regularly last season and emerged as one of Ligue 1’s brightest prospects, attracting interest from several clubs.

If the clubs can agree a fee, a total package worth around £25 million is under discussion. The report said he would sign a five-year deal.

The left side of defence has been a priority this window after Dennis Cirkin departed as a free agent earlier this summer. Arthur Masuaku is widely expected to move on and has interest from Turkish club Konyaspor.

That leaves Régis Le Bris and Sunderland with Reinildo as their only recognised left back. The 32-year-old was a key performer last season and is now in the second and final year of his deal.

It has been a quiet window on Wearside, with senior figures prioritising quality over quantity. After the 4-2 defeat to Liverpool in Nashville at the weekend, Le Bris stressed the club are working on additions and that operating under the radar is imperative.
