Sunderland-linked Napoli midfielder Frank Zambo Anguissa has been described as more complete than Kevin De Bruyne, with his contract entering its final year.

Capped 67 times by Cameroon, he joined Napoli on an initial loan almost five years ago, then signed permanently in summer 2022. He has since become a two-time Serie A champion and made 24 appearances in the Champions League and Europa League.

Anguissa will enter the last 12 months of his deal after Napoli triggered an extension, and talks over fresh terms are said to be on hold. AreaNapoli reports that a fee of around €20m would be required, and that AC Milan, who are in next season’s Europa League, are monitoring.

Former Napoli player Gaetano Fontana, asked to choose between Anguissa and Kevin De Bruyne, replied: “Anguissa, all my life. Because he’s a complete, versatile player, capable of playing in both phases of the game. Tactically, he integrates perfectly with the other midfielders and interprets modern football in the best possible way. Looking at Napoli’s recent history, I believe he’s one of the players who best adapts to any coach’s ideas.”

He was speaking to Tutto Napoli.
