Sunderland have been linked with Lucas Stassin, Emil Holm and Lutsharel Geertruida. According to Sunderland Echo, Porto have concrete talks under way over Stassin, which could complicate any Black Cats interest.

The 21-year-old Saint-Etienne striker is expected to move this summer after an impressive season in France. He scored 11 goals and registered eight assists in 31 Ligue 2 matches, and Sunderland are among those credited with interest in the Belgium international.

Saint-Etienne are said to have turned down early approaches, with an asking price indicated at €35 million plus €7 million in add-ons, roughly £29.9 million plus £6 million, around £35.9 million in total. Porto won the league title last season and can offer a major European platform.

Even so, Sunderland would fit the step up he is thought to be seeking. Régis Le Bris will lead a Premier League campaign and Europa League football is also on offer next season. Stassin has progressed through Belgium’s youth teams and has been capped at senior level.

The Black Cats are active on several fronts, with Florent Ghisolfi looking to drive down the price for Geertruida after his RB Leipzig loan. The Dutch defender is rated at around £20 million and is currently at the World Cup.

Sunderland have also been linked with Bologna’s Swedish international Emil Holm, who spent last season on loan at Juventus. He is valued in the £10 million to £20 million range, a bracket Sunderland operated in last year when adding Nordi Mukiele and Omar Alderete.
