Sunderland have cancelled and returned 65 away tickets to sale for Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby at St James’ Park. A limited number will be available from 12pm today after a breach of ticketing rules.

The club said in a statement that a review identified misuse by one supporter, who breached policies on away ticket usage, prompting cancellations. It described the case as large-scale.

Breaches of the ticketing terms may lead to cancellations and potential suspension from matches at the Stadium of Light, and the process remains focused on ensuring tickets are used by genuine supporters.

The extra tickets are expected to go quickly as Sunderland fans prepare to travel to Tyneside for the latest instalment of the rivalry.

Earlier this season, the Black Cats won the reverse fixture at the Stadium of Light 1-0 via a Woltemade own goal.
