Wilson Isidor has confirmed he will represent Haiti’s national team. The Sunderland striker said in a 148-word post that he will commit to the Grenadiers.
Addressed to fans and the Haitian community, the message answered persistent appeals for him to choose the Caribbean nation.
It explained that he had taken time to reflect, wanting to do right for the country and the balance of the team rather than rush the decision.
He acknowledged seeing the many messages, which moved him deeply, and expressed pride at joining the selection to honour the people and the nation.
The striker set out a hope of writing history together and living great adventures, and looked forward to feeling the diaspora’s fervour and meeting supporters soon.
The announcement comes as Sunderland prepare for Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby at St James' Park, one of the Premier League season’s most anticipated fixtures.
