Sunderland can secure a bigger Premier League payout by climbing the table when they host Chelsea next Sunday. According to Sunderland Echo, victory could nudge them higher and strengthen funds for the summer window.

The match will close a memorable return to the top flight at the Stadium of Light. Wins over Chelsea and Bournemouth, a league double against Newcastle United, and points taken off Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Aston Villa have lit up Wearside.

With one game remaining, European football is a long shot for Regis Le Bris and his players. The financial incentive on the final afternoon remains significant.

Based on current standings, merit payments range from £53.1m for first to £2.6m for 20th. Sunderland are at £23.8m in 12th, while ninth-placed Chelsea sit on £31.9m.

Every club also receives equal-share TV income, which last season was £29.8m domestically and £59.2m internationally per club. Any climb in position next weekend would add to that pot.
