According to Sky Sports, Sunderland intend to keep Romaine Mundle this month despite mounting interest from Rangers and Feyenoord.
An operation on a hamstring issue in pre-season left the 22-year-old playing catch up. He has also faced extra competition on the left from Chemsdine Talbi, Simon Adingra and Enzo Le Fée, summer arrivals who have all featured out wide under Regis Le Bris.
Recently fully fit, Mundle has worked his way back into contention and made his Premier League debut against Bournemouth in late November. He has eight top-flight appearances, all from the bench, and played the full 120 minutes in Saturday’s FA Cup third round tie with Everton.
Even so, there had been suggestions he could move this month. Le Bris said discussions are open for players short of minutes, stressing the club project comes first and that any solution would hinge on second-half opportunities and a suitable plan elsewhere.
After his debut, Mundle said he had waited a long time for the moment and was delighted it came with three points. He added that he stayed positive around the training ground during his absence and, after surgery, hopes to kick on.
