Sunderland’s transfer focus has sharpened, with a key Anthony Patterson update and revived interest in Victor Munoz after a bruising week.
According to ChronicleLive, Millwall are exploring keeping Patterson for 2026/27, potentially tied to promotion, while Championship winners Coventry City, Hull City and West Brom are also monitoring amid uncertainty over Brighton loanee Carl Rushworth. AS reports Sunderland are again interested in Osasuna’s Munoz and that Real Madrid’s buyback clause could yet shape any decision.
On the pitch, Sunderland lost at Aston Villa, battling back from 3-1 to level before Tammy Abraham struck deep into second-half stoppage time. They were then overrun by Nottingham Forest, 4-0 down inside 37 minutes before Elliot Anderson completed the scoring after the break.
Patterson’s route to starts has narrowed since Robin Roefs arrived despite the academy graduate’s role in promotion, so he joined Millwall on loan in January. The move has worked, with five clean sheets in 13 Championship matches as the Lions stay in the promotion fight.
Sunderland were strongly linked with Munoz before Nilson Angulo arrived, but did not meet his release clause, believed to be about €40m (£34.7m).
Osasuna sporting director Braulio Vázquez has said Madrid’s three-year buyback is already agreed and the club will enjoy Munoz until season’s end. The winger has six goals and five assists in 34 outings, with Osasuna 10th in La Liga.
Sunderland still have plenty to play for this season, while attention is turning to the summer window.
