Sunderland remain the Premier League’s only unbeaten home side, and their gates are among the league’s biggest ahead of Liverpool’s midweek visit.

According to Sunderland Echo, the Black Cats average 46,247 this season, up by over 7,000 on 2024/25, their best since 2001/02’s 46,745 and the club’s fourth-highest figure.

That ranks ninth in the Premier League. Newcastle draw 52,055, while Everton have edged above them recently to 52,131 at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium. Sunderland sit clear of Aston Villa on 41,891 and Chelsea on 39,623.

Manchester United lead the division with 73,960, more than 11,000 clear of second-placed West Ham on 62,454 at London Stadium. Tottenham average 61,007, Liverpool 60,376 and Arsenal 60,205. Across Europe’s top five leagues, only Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are higher.

There are no immediate plans to expand the Stadium of Light, but its capacity keeps Sunderland competitive off the pitch on their Premier League return after 2017. They lost 3-0 at leaders Arsenal on Saturday, then host champions Liverpool on Wednesday seeking to protect that home record. Next come Oxford United in the FA Cup, Fulham at home, then Bournemouth away.
