Regis Le Bris has leaned on a settled core as Sunderland impress in the Premier League. According to WhoScored, minutes played underline how defined his XI has been across the campaign.
They have beaten Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Brentford, and completed a league double over rivals Newcastle United. There have also been hard-earned draws with Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Based on minutes, the most-used XI is goalkeeper Robin Roefs 2,520 and a back four of Nordi Mukiele 2,165, Omar Alderete 2,356, Dan Ballard 2,008 and Trai Hume 2,585. Midfield features Granit Xhaka 2,273, Noah Sadiki 2,297 and Habib Diarra 1,103. Up front are Enzo Le Fee 2,306, Brian Brobbey 1,370 and Chemsdine Talbi 1,330.
After Sunday’s derby win, the head coach said it was probably unexpected to reach 40 points so early, and that injuries and tiredness are normal. He stressed togetherness and the team’s identity, believing difficult spells can reinforce pillars and create conditions for better days with a fresher, fuller squad. He reflected that the play-offs ten months ago demanded patience before taking their moment.
Sunderland resume after the international break aiming to close a three-point gap to the top seven and keep alive hopes of only a second European campaign in their history. Several players are expected to return for next month’s home game with Tottenham Hotspur, leaving selection calls for Le Bris. Tottenham arrive as a side firmly battling to avoid relegation.
