Super agent hails Barcelona winger as ‘the player of the future’ | OneFootball

During the Globe Soccer Awards gala held in Dubai, renowned super agent Jorge Mendes openly backed Lamine Yamal, suggesting that the Barcelona teenager has what it takes to one day win the Ballon d’Or.

It is known that Mendes, who heads the powerful Gestifute agency, maintains a strong relationship with Barcelona and represents several players from the current first-team squad. 

His portfolio at the club includes Yamal, who recently beat Lionel Messi in jersey sales in 2025, along with Alejandro Balde, Guille Fernandez, and recent addition Marc Casado. 

Mendes’ backing of Yamal

Following the gala, Mendes was asked directly about who he believes represents the future of world football, and his response left little room for doubt. 

Speaking with complete conviction, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, he said: “The player of the future? It’s Lamine Yamal. 

“I think he can still win the award for best player in the world. He has a lot of quality,” he noted.

Mendes did not stop there. He went on to analyse Yamal’s personality and maturity. 

Despite being just 18 years old, the Barcelona winger has already shown remarkable composure in the spotlight. 

Reflecting on this aspect, Mendes explained, “Lamine knows exactly what he’s doing, both on and off the field. 

“He’s a great player and a fantastic young man who is constantly learning.” 

The Portuguese agent also believes that Yamal is already entering a decisive phase of his career. In his view, the winger is no longer just a promise for the future, but a player capable of shaping the present. 

“I think he is at his best, capable of winning individual titles and trophies with Barcelona, and that he can become the best player in the world in the next ten years,” he concluded.
