What a pleasing win! We took a convincing success against LASK to remain unbeaten for our fourth match in a row at the start of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga season. Soumaila Diabate and Petar Ratkov put us on the way to a win before a sending off for the visitors before the interval put us in complete command. Edmund Baidoo's header then made it 3-0 towards the end.
LASK sought to catch us out early on when Cisse headed into the post. That early effort proved the exception, however – with both teams looking for openings but few chances coming at either end to begin with.
We increased our control of the play, with a perfectly rehearsed corner routine sending us in front. After several short passes and a dream chip from Sota Kitano into the danger area, Jacob laid the ball on a plate for Diabate to make it 1-0 (24'). We kept our collective foot on the accelerator and pressed on just minutes later. Kjaergaard won the ball just outside the box and crossed into the middle where Ratkov leaped to send an unstoppable header in for 2-0 (31'). As if the Linz side weren't up against it enough already, they then sabotaged their own chances. Captain Sascha Horvath protested to referee Julian Weinberger after seeing a yellow card for a foul, and duly saw a second caution - as he was sent off (35'). A two-goal lead and an extra man made for a superb situation at the break.
After the break we managed our lead superbly, while LASK struggled to lay a glove on us with their ten men. Several substitutes were given a chance in the second period to show what they can do, including Enrique Aguilar on his Bundesliga debut. Without taking any needless risks, we knew how to keep the pressure on LASK. Yorbe Vertessen flashed a shot just over on the break (57') while Ratkov's effort on the turn was blocked by a defender on the line (65'). The third goal finally came when Baidoo converted an ideal cross from Stevie Lainer with a fine header to seal the win (82').
The richly-deserved home win was in the bag, and our ten points after four Bundesliga matches leaves us top of the table for now! We are back in action next week, on Saturday 30 August at 17:00 CEST at home to FC Blau-Weiß Linz, before an away clash in the second round of the cup on Wednesday 27 August at 18:00 in Dornbirn.
We played decently and fully deserved to win by this margin! We had a bit of luck at the very beginning and then scored the opening goal from a set piece – the third time in a row we've scored from a set piece, which makes me particularly happy for Kai Hesse, who is responsible for set pieces. The most important message at half-time was to play it safe and not do anything stupid. We had huge chances to decide the game much earlier, but the bottom line is we took a 3-0 win, and that's fine.
