Another bitter night for Inter has underlined several areas requiring urgent improvement after their Supercoppa Italiana exit to Bologna.

The Nerazzurri will not be lifting the first trophy of the season and must now return focus to the competitions they remain in.

As Corriere della Sera notes, via FCInterNews, Bologna progressed to the final on penalties, “missing fewer chances and scoring the decisive goal from the spot through Ciro Immobile.”

The paper’s verdict is blunt: “Good aim also matters.”

For Inter, the shootout exposed a lack of composure, with Bastoni, Barella and Bonny all erring “with a worrying degree of sloppiness,” while Ravaglia did the rest.

A fast start and a stunning volley from Thuram were not enough.

“Not the bursts from Dimarco, not the flourishes of Zielinski, not even Lautaro’s introduction midway through the second half” helped Inter close the game.

The problem was familiar: control without a killer edge. Bologna “quickly found courage,” absorbed pressure after the break and stayed compact.

Key moments also came from the spot in normal time.

Bisseck’s handball, missed by the referee but spotted by VAR, led to Orsolini’s equaliser.

Meanwhile, a second-half penalty awarded to Inter was overturned after review.

Up front, the Bonny–Thuram pairing “did not convince,” and the adjustments to cover Dumfries’ absence lacked bite.

Luis Henrique struggled to make an impact, while Diouf offered more late on. With Darmian set to return, market help looks increasingly necessary.

There was, however, one consolation: Josep Martinez.

The goalkeeper’s performance suggests Inter may finally have genuine competition between the posts, one positive on a night that otherwise exposed clear shortcomings.
