Birmingham City are reportedly interested in a sensational return for Torino frontman Che Adams this summer
Birmingham City are gearing up for a significant season back in the Championship after romping to the League One title at the very first attempt under Chris Davies.
Backed by unchallenged financial muscle from hugely-popular chairman Tom Wagner, Blues spent lavishly in last summer's transfer window and reaped the rewards by winning the league title and breaking Wolverhampton Wanderers' previous record points tally of 103.
Wagner himself has already explained how Blues' anticipated revenue increase heading into the Championship will make them the highest revenue-generating club not in receipt of the Premier League's mandated three-year parachute payments package to relegated sides, while they will also be on a par with those teams.
Yet another eye-catching window is expected at St Andrews @ Knighthead Park this summer, and Blues are seemingly already working on targets.
As exclusively revealed by Football League World last week, the League One champions have offered a stunning £30,000-a-week contract to Peterborough United winger Kwame Poku.
Now, it has emerged that Birmingham are looking to make another signing which would most certainly turn heads by registering an interest in bringing former striker Che Adams back to the club.
According to a recent report published by Football Insider, Blues are "working on a deal" to return Adams from Serie A outfit Torino.
It's said that they are poised to offer Adams, who is estimated to be earning a weekly wage of €64,038 (£54,500), a "blockbuster" contract in a bid to pull off the deal this summer.
Adams has enjoyed a productive debut campaign in the Italian top-flight after joining on a free transfer from Southampton last July, recording 10 goals across all competitions from 34 appearances.
The 37-cap Scottish international, of course, remains fondly remembered by the Blues faithful for his three-year stay between 2016 and 2019. Adams found the back of the net on 22 occasions in the Championship during his third and final season with the club, which earned a reported £15 million move to Southampton.
The striker went on to establish himself at Premier League level with the Saints and was prolific in the 2023/24 campaign as they achieved promotion back to the top-flight at the first attempt, returning 16 league strikes from just 25 starts.
Birmingham's lavish recruitment drive last summer was aggressive and ambitious, and they will only be able to amplify that further this time around amid a sizeable revenue increase from promotion and the ability to offer Championship football.
At this point, there can be no contest to the ambition and intent from the club's top-brass, who appear to have their sights set on successive promotions to the Premier League.
Recruiting a player of Adams' expenditure and proven top-flight pedigree would be just another sign of that, and his arrival could offer a significant boost to Blues' hopes of competing right at the top-end of the table next season.
At 28, Adams is enjoying an impressive season in Italy and appears to be firmly in his prime. His impact in the Championship with Blues was exceptional, but he would likely eclipse it next season if he does indeed make a return, and you can see why everyone connected with the club is so excited about what 2025/26 may have in store.
