“Take our chances” – Same old story for Chelsea who blame bad finishing for bad defeat

Poor Reece James is one of the few Chelsea players who consistently performs, yet he’s also the captain and the most likely to have to speak out after a defeat.

On Sunday he wasn’t even picked to start, yet still had to face up and speak to the club’s official website after the game.

Reece James on Chelsea’s disappointing season

“We need to digest this season. It’s been far below our standards and we need to review and see where we can improve for next time,” James said.

“Just saying it [not qualifying for Europe] doesn’t sound right. We’re a club that has won a number of European trophies and this season we haven’t even qualified. So, we have lots to learn and improve.

“I think it [defeat at Sunderland] probably reflects how our season has gone – we’ve underachieved. We had a few chances in the first half and we didn’t take them. I feel if we had taken our chances, the game would have been different.”

We’re sick of hearing the same excuses and the same reasons, and we’re sure Reece is sick of giving them. Next season is a fresh start, and a chance for something different.
