Manchester United have yet to sanction any significant outgoings since the summer transfer period got underway, but they may just be edging closer to their first sale.

From the fans’ perspective, it’s been a quiet window thus far, barring the side’s early acquisition of £62.5 million Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The expectation in the closing stages of last season was that a whole-squad overhaul would take place to rid the squad of any deadwood before Ruben Amorim’s first full term in the dugout. However, that can only take place if actual suitors are willing to do business.

United have seemingly found one club keen to engage in talks, although, to their surprise, it wasn’t for the quartet of players that INEOS are actively trying to shift: Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho.

Instead, reports from Saudi Arabia (via Sport Jazirah) are claiming that Al-Nassr are closing in on a deal for Casemiro, with sources indicating that ‘negotiations are in advanced stages’.

It remains to be seen what kind of fee United would be expecting for the 33-year-old veteran, especially given that he is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract.

How Casemiro has fared over the last year

This time last year, the board were actively seeking an exit route for Casemiro in the aftermath of a lacklustre year in Red. He had overseen a considerable fall-off from his maiden campaign in M16, and, following David de Gea’s release in 2023, was earning the highest wages of any of his teammates.

When a lack of interest meant the Brazilian stayed put, he entered 2024/2025 in hopes of reigniting the most prolific version of himself, which hit a roadblock when Amorim took the reins and made it clear Casemiro would not be playing a prominent role in his plans.

Credit to the former Real Madrid man, he impressed so much in the appearances he did make — primarily due to injuries to his counterparts in midfield — that he worked his way up in the manager’s estimations, to the point United haven’t felt such a pressing need to remove him from the books.

Still, if there’s a chance for funds to be raised and subsequently reinvested in a younger alternative, you couldn’t blame INEOS for cashing in.
