TAS has rejected Santos’ appeal, giving the club 45 days to pay Arouca for outstanding sums tied to the signing of defender João Basso.

According to Diario Do Peixe, the dispute stems from the August 2023 transfer, valued at around €2.5 million. After talks failed, FIFA referred the case to TAS, which ruled against Santos. The Portuguese club’s position is that the first instalment was paid, with the remainder missing agreed deadlines.

If the payment is not made within the timeframe, Santos could face a transfer ban and be unable to register players.

Basso made 14 appearances that year and earned a starting spot before a left hamstring injury kept him out of the run-in, returning for the relegation match. He was later loaned to Estoril in Portugal, where he played 14 times.

After returning mid-season, he was reintegrated for Serie B and scored two goals in eight games, then featured 15 times and scored once before a muscle injury. Following his recovery, coach Vojvoda arrived and did not select him.

Basso last played on 26 July, so he has been out for six months. He is under contract until the end of this year. The centre-back came through at Paraná, then played in Portugal for Estoril Praia, Real Sport Club and Arouca before joining Santos.
