Liverpool travel to Istanbul for a high-stakes Champions League encounter against Galatasaray with fresh injury concerns affecting Arne Slot’s plans. The first leg of the last-16 tie at RAMS Park already promised intensity, but the latest Liverpool injury news adds another layer of intrigue to a contest between two ambitious sides.
According to the original source on LiverpoolFC.com, the Reds will be forced into at least one change to their starting line-up after a late training setback ruled Alisson Becker out of the trip to Turkiye. Slot confirmed the goalkeeper will not feature, leaving Liverpool to reshuffle a key position for one of their most important European fixtures of the season.
Liverpool and Galatasaray have already faced each other earlier in the campaign, with the Turkish side claiming a narrow victory. That memory will add further motivation for Slot’s players as they seek to take control of the tie before the return leg at Anfield.

The biggest headline from the Liverpool injury news concerns Alisson Becker, whose absence has come as a blow ahead of such a demanding European night. The Brazilian goalkeeper felt discomfort during the final training session before the squad travelled to Istanbul.
Speaking before the match, Arne Slot explained exactly how the situation unfolded.
“Federico was also not in the session, he felt unwell last night, so that’s why he wasn’t training with us today and not travelling with us,” Slot said.
“Ali, of course, was in the session – as many people could see – but unfortunately he felt something towards the end of the session.
“And it was, how do you say this… people looked at it and we decided and he decided together that it wasn’t good enough to play tomorrow. And then it’s of no use travelling.”
With Alisson unavailable, Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to step into the starting line-up. The Georgian international now faces a significant test against a Galatasaray side that carries plenty of attacking threat, particularly on home soil where the atmosphere inside RAMS Park can be fierce.
The decision to leave Alisson behind appears precautionary, but Liverpool supporters will still be watching closely as the injury situation develops.
Despite the setback in goal, Slot insisted Liverpool’s squad depth is improving at a crucial stage of the season. Injuries earlier in the campaign forced the head coach to rely on a limited group of players, but the recent return of several squad members has broadened his tactical choices.
One area of particular interest is the right-back role. Dominik Szoboszlai has occasionally filled in there this season, and Slot admitted he has experimented with multiple solutions.
“I think I have played five or six different players in that position this season,” the head coach said. “Dominik is one of them, he’s done in general in almost all of the games really well, but he’s played also really well in the midfield.
“So, the good thing for me is I have choices to make and that has not been happening a lot this season. It was mainly 13 or 14 players available and usually the same ones always playing.
“Now, in the last game against Wolves I could even impact the game off the bench [and] that hasn’t happened that many times this season, so that’s a very good thing for us.
“So, I can now play Dominik if I want to play him as a full-back because I think that’s the best decision to make and not because I have no-one else in that position.
“That is something really positive for us and also important going into the final stage of the season where we play a lot – and we’ve already played a lot – and it’s the end of the season, so the more players available the better it is because usually players can get a bit tired towards the end and the more players you have then the better it is.”
Slot’s comments underline how Liverpool are trying to balance squad management with the relentless schedule that defines the closing months of a European campaign.
While Liverpool’s injury news dominates the pre-match narrative, Galatasaray arrive with confidence and momentum. The Turkish champions have only one notable absentee, defender Arda Unyay, and otherwise boast a fully fit squad.
Their recent form has been solid, including a derby victory over Besiktas, and players such as Victor Osimhen and Leroy Sané offer genuine attacking danger.
Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk acknowledged the importance of the first leg while warning his players to remain disciplined.
“On the one hand, we need to play this match in the best way, and on the other hand, we need to be very careful not to get a simple card,” he said.
“There can be all kinds of cards in the game, but we need to avoid simple cards. Because we will play two matches.”
Buruk also emphasised the opportunity ahead for his side.
“The first leg is the most important one. There are big teams – 16 big teams – on the same path as us and we all have a chance to progress.
“Our goal is to gain the advantage in the first match against Liverpool.”
This meeting between Liverpool and Galatasaray represents far more than just another knockout tie. For Liverpool, it is part of a broader ambition to reclaim European dominance under Arne Slot’s leadership.
The Reds arrive in Istanbul after a strong domestic performance against Wolves, a match that showcased both attacking sharpness and resilience. Yet European nights away from home often bring unique challenges, especially against a club backed by one of football’s most passionate fan bases.
Liverpool’s ability to adapt without Alisson could prove decisive. Goalkeeping changes in elite competition often carry risk, but they can also create unexpected heroes.
What is certain is that both Liverpool and Galatasaray recognise the significance of the first leg. One decisive moment, a tactical adjustment, or a flash of individual brilliance could shape the trajectory of the entire tie.
As reported in the original source on LiverpoolFC.com, Liverpool head into the clash with injury concerns but also with renewed squad depth and belief. That mixture may define whether they leave Istanbul with the advantage.
