Former Manchester United defender Teden Mengi is attracting interest from the Premier League.
The 23-year-old is a graduate of the famed United academy.
He made his senior debut for the Red Devils in the Europa League in August 2020.
Mengi would later have loan spells at Derby County and Birmingham City but would never really threaten to secure a spot in the first team at Old Trafford.
In August 2023, he secured a permanent transfer to Luton Town, who had just been promoted to the Premier League.
Despite the Hatters’ immediate relegation back to the Championship in 2024, Mengi impressed and managed to make his England Under-21 debut in 2024 against Luxembourg.
He has played 52 times for Luton, scoring two goals.
Nonetheless, he suffered a serious knee injury last year in the Championship which saw him miss 37 games of the season as Luton were relegated once again to League One.
Despite his injury issues and fall to the third division, Mengi is still attracting interest from Premier League sides.
Mike McGrath from The Telegraph posted on X that “Luton are in talks with Burnley over potential deal for centre back Teden Mengi.”
He also added that, “the 23-year-old is an option at Turf Moor as they look to strengthen Scott Parker’s squad.”
No move was completed before deadline day but there is the possibility that Burnley return for Mengi in the January market.
United would stand to gain 40% of any future sale of Mengi and they have already seen the benefit of these clauses as they have made money from Anthony Elanga, Alvaro Carreras and Maxi Oyedele’s sales this summer.
