Coventry City’s Jay Dasilva is attracting interest from Europe ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to Alan Nixon, the full-back is a transfer target for Bundesliga side Freiburg.

Dasilva joined the Sky Blues last summer as a free agent following his departure from Championship rivals Bristol City.

He featured 37 times for Mark Robins’ side, including 25 starts, and contributed three assists (all stats from Fbref).

The 26-year-old also helped play a role in the club’s run to the FA Cup semi-finals, where they were dramatically eliminated by Manchester United on penalties.

Jay Dasilva departure would be a minor blow

FLW’s Coventry fan pundit Neil Littlewood believes that Dasilva does bring something to the team’s attack, even if he has fallen behind Jake Bidwell in the pecking order.

He has claimed that losing the left-back would be a blow, but suggested it wouldn’t be a major issue for Robins’ squad if he was sold.

"Dasilva is a weird one," Littlewood told Football League World.

"Freiburg would be a great move for him, and I don’t think Coventry fan would stand in his way.

"He kind of slipped behind Jake Bidwell in the pecking order for the majority of the season.

"His height lets him down.

"A lot of times you see when he comes on, teams will pinpoint that and go aerially against him.

"But his first touch is phenomenal, he’s got one of the best first touches I’ve ever seen, from a defender especially.

"We’ve got players who can ping cross-field balls, and he brings them down beautifully.

"Going forward he’s obviously brilliant, he really adds something to us going forward.

"I think against Sheffield Wednesday he put in a beautiful ball for Haji Wright to score a header.

"I think he’s got a lot more going forward for him going forward than defensively.

"I don’t think it would be a massive loss, but it would be a loss, I think he would be a good squad player."

Jay Dasilva transfer evaluation

Littlewood believes that Dasilva could be worth up to £750,000, and that any fee received for him would be good profit because he was signed as a free agent.

"[Coventry] picked him up on a free, so it's profit regardless," he added.

"I know [Joel] Latibeaudiere before saying a couple of million and I'd be happy to see him go, but anything north of £750,000 I think the club would be really tempted to snap your hand off.

"I think if he did move on, I don’t think he’s played for [Wales] yet but I know he’s been in and around the squad.

"Don’t know what they’re doing for pre-Euros, if they’re playing friendlies and if he’ll be involved and stuff, but that could add an extra couple of quid to his evaluation.

"It’s one of those where I don’t think too many people would be too sad if he did move on, which is a shame because he seems like a genuinely lovely player, and like I said, attacking-wise, he brings a lot to the club."

Coventry could seek good price for Dasilva

While gaining £750,000 from a player signed as a free agent after just 12 months would be a decent profit, Coventry could potentially hold out for more.

A Bundesliga side is considering a move for him, which highlights his potential to play at a high level.

The Sky Blues could set an asking price worth seven figures for him given he still has a contract until 2027.

This gives Coventry a strong negotiating position going into the summer, which they should use to their advantage to maximise the price of any sale.
