According to a major revelation by Mario Cortegana for The Athletic, tensions are reportedly brewing between Vinicius Jr. and Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso following the Brazilian’s unexpected substitution during the El Clasico clash against Barcelona.
The report claims that those close to Vinicius were furious and baffled by Alonso’s decision to take him off despite his strong performance.
It is known that Vinicius was shocked and visibly upset when his number flashed on the board in the 72nd minute, with Real Madrid leading 2-1.
The 25-year-old couldn’t hide his disbelief, reportedly asking several times, “Me?!” before calling out to his manager, “Coach, coach!”, as he made his way to the bench.
Those close to him were left puzzled, especially as he had been one of the most active players on the pitch, troubling Barcelona’s backline and even winning an early penalty that was later overturned by VAR.
Cortegana notes that this is not an isolated issue. Vinicius has only completed three of the ten games he has started this season, while also being left out of the starting lineup in several key fixtures.

Such patterns have led to frustration, particularly from a player known for his drive and competitive nature.
Sources close to the Brazilian are convinced that Alonso is acting independently in these choices, without influence from club officials.
Even so, they find it difficult to understand why the coach continues to remove a player capable of deciding games.
To complicate matters, contract talks between Vinicius and the club have stalled, even though his current deal runs until 2027, fuelling speculation that not all is well behind the scenes.
Within Real Madrid’s corridors, opinions on Vinicius remain divided. Some view his fiery personality as disruptive, while others argue it is a sign of his hunger and passion.
Yet this latest fallout paints a picture of a star who feels misunderstood and a coach determined to stick to his principles.
