According to L'Équipe, TF1 will end Téléfoot in its current form at the start of next season, replacing it with a Sunday morning multisport show. Automoto will keep its Sunday morning slot.

Téléfoot launched in September 1977. Sports chief Julien Millereux told staff on Tuesday that the final edition of this season is scheduled for 14 June. Recent audiences averaged around 800,000, including 679,000 on Sunday 22 March.

The Téléfoot brand will continue digitally on TF1+, though its new format is yet to be defined. The channel aims to end its Ligue 1 clip deal, worth one million euros a year, using a break clause after two seasons. The LFP says any continuation in another form would need discussion, and a meeting with LFP Media is set.

As a multisport magazine, the new show should be able to use the right to news, allowing up to 90 seconds per competition without paying rights. It is designed to spotlight TF1’s rugby and basketball properties.

The shake-up is part of TF1’s plan to refresh its schedule, reach younger viewers and match new habits. TF1+ launched in January 2024 and now has 38 million monthly users.

TF1 has also reshaped its rights portfolio. It did not secure the 2026 and 2030 World Cups, yet keeps France matches outside World Cups until 2028 and the next Euro. The focus is rugby and basketball, including Nations Championship 2026 and 2028 and nine 2026 Six Nations games.
