‘That puts me in a tight spot with Liverpool fans’ – Ibrahima Konaté offers contract update | OneFootball

France international centre-back Ibrahima Konaté (26) has offered an update regarding his contractual situation with Liverpool. The 26-year-old has entered the final months of the five-year contract he signed with the Premier League champions back in 2021. L’Equipe understands that Liverpool are confident in their ability to persuade Konaté to extend his stay on Merseyside. Meanwhile, the France international centre-back – who will captain Les Bleus today against Azerbaijan – said that he hoped his contractual stand-off won’t last much longer.

Speaking to TF1 from Baku, where France will face Azerbaijan for a World Cup qualifier dead rubber, Konaté said that his contractual situation was still on his mind. “It’s difficult, we can’t say everything because a lot of things are already being said in the media.“

The Liverpool centre-back also seems to rubbish some of the reports regarding his future. “Some of the things that I read, I’m like… oh la la. That puts me in a tight spot with Liverpool fans, and they don’t even know all the ins and outs.” Konaté added that he hoped his decision will be made soon, and that the most important thing for him was his and family’s happiness.
