The London is Blue podcast’s look back at the game over the weekend had some interesting thoughts about the goal in the game and how important it could end up being.

Nicolas Jackson scored it to end a 13 games goalless run that was draining him almost visibly. As they pointed out on the show, this is just the sort of drought breaking moment he and the team desperately needed, and we can only hope it leads to more goal in the games to come:

Dan Dormer and his co-host Nick Verlaney agreed that that smart finish from the edge of the box could prove a pivotal moment:

“Nico Jackson fires it home, a first outside the box goal of his career… this is great right? This is good! Nico Jackson scoring again in the best possible thing that could happen for this team,” Dormer pointed out.

His co-host agreed:

“You could feel the expectation lift off of his shoulders. It was like a wave went out – ‘ok we’re done messing around here’, we’re done with some pretty poor performances if we’re honest as of late, since he returned from injury… we’re still waiting for Cole [Palmer] to get there but nice that one of the two has started scoring.”

The Senegal striker had tears in his eyes as he celebrated, showing how much his bad run was getting to him mentally.

Jackson confidence even more important than Palmer return to form

We’re very much on the same page. The 3 points were vital, but the goal coming from Jackson makes it even better. Perhaps even more than Palmer, Jackson is the one we most need in form and confident if we’re going to win these final games.

In fact, there’s nothing more likely to get Palmer going than an in-form Jackson, so it all dovetails nicely.
