Fluminense won the 2023 Copa Libertadores to secure their place at the Club World Cup. The Brazilian outfit beat Argentinian giants Boca Juniors 2-1 in the final and lifted their first and only Copa Libertadores title in the club's history.

Fluminense have featured in one previous Club World Cup in 2023 and reached the final after defeating Al Ahly 2-0, but eventually lost in the final against Premier League opponents and Champions League winners, Manchester City.

How did they perform in the 2024/25 season?

At the time of writing, Fluminense are currently sixth in Brazil's Série A. In the Copa Sudamericana they topped their group with four wins from six.

Who is the coach?

Former player Renato Gaúcho is Fluminense's head coach. Gaúcho had five previous stints as full-time boss, and two as interim, before returning to lead the Rio de Janeiro outfit once again in April 2025.

Who is their star player?

Even at the tender age of 37, Germán Cano continues to perform at the top level for Fluminense. Cano is now in his fourth season with the Brazilian side and continues to score goals at an impressive rate.

The Argentinian veteran also has a knack for scoring in the continental competitions and struck 19 goals across the 2023 and 2024 Copa Libertadores.

Expected performance at the Club World Cup

Despite their continental success in 2023, Fluminense struggled in the Brazilian Série A in 2024 and were facing a relegation battle early in the campaign. They eventually recovered but limped to a disappointing mid-table finish, leaving question marks about their readiness ahead of the Club World Cup.
