Manchester City rounded off 2025 with a thumping 5-1 win away at West Ham United to secure their progress into the semi-finals of the Subway Women’s League Cup.

They will face Chelsea for a place in the final.

And going into the winter break, head coach Andree Jeglertz – who was appointed in the summer – reflected on his team’s progress over the last four months.

“I think when you start in August and you ask how you want the season to be, it’s difficult to predict,” he told the club’s official website.

“In the long haul there’s lots of things, me coming in, we’re changing couple of things in the game but also how we’re training.

“With that said, I think we’ve come quite far and I’m very pleased with that.

“The most important thing for me though is that I can see the players are eager to get better, they enjoy training sessions and being together, and if we have that and the quality we have, I think I’m looking forward to spring.”

City’s victory was sealed courtesy of goals from Kerolin, Lauren Hemp, Grace Clinton, Bunny Shaw and Laura Coombs.

Riko Ueki got a first-half goal back to halve the initial deficit, but the Hammers – without a manager since the departure of Rehanne Skinner last week – could not keep holding back the tide.

And Jeglertz was pleased to see the determination of his team in the face of an obstacle.

“I think that we showed again that the mentality of winning these games is great in the team.

“Even though we started the game great, we had a bit of a set back first half but second half we dominated totally and scored some great goals.

“Getting playing time for lots of players and those coming in bringing lots to the team, it says a lot about the structure of the group also.

“They’re tight together and we have the foundations for performance.”

Manchester City’s first match in 2026 is on Sunday, 11th January, against Everton, as they look to maintain their position at the top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table.
