Reigning champions Liverpool made it four Premier League defeats in a row on Saturday with a 3-2 loss at Brentford.
The Reds have also been beaten by Manchester United, Chelsea and Crystal Palace in recent weeks and now sit seven points behind league leaders Arsenal.
But they are not the only reigning Premier League champions to have lost four league games in a row the season after winning the title, and some of them have been very recent.
Here’s the other Premier League champions to have lost four in a row during the next campaign, and how they ended up…

The most recent reigning Premier League champions to lose four games in a row actually came last season.
Man City were beaten four times in a row over November and December, suffering defeats against Bournemouth, Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester City, and Liverpool.
That also made up a run of six defeats in eight games as Pep Guardiola’s side failed to defend their crown.
They would turn things around somewhat later in the season, however, winning nine of the last 12 games and finishing third in the Premier League table.

This is not the first time Liverpool have won a title and then lost four games in a row the following season.
Back in the 2020/21 season, Jurgen Klopp’s side were beaten four times in a row over February, losing to Brighton, Manchester City, Leicester and Everton.
It was part of a very poor run of form for the Reds, who lost eight out of 12 games amid an injury crisis.
Like City last season, they rallied towards the end of the campaign and secured Champions League qualification with a third-placed finish.

The only other previous reigning Premier League champions to lose four in a row the following season were Leicester City.
The Foxes defied 5000/1 odds to lift the Premier League trophy but lost key player N’Golo Kante in the summer and struggled, parting ways with boss Claudio Ranieri during the season.
Leicester’s is a unique case in that they were not expected to be title winners in the first place, and they ended up finishing 12th that season, which was something of a success given they had looked in relegation trouble at one point.
