Premier League legend Alan Shearer believes Enzo Maresca is under pressure after suffering back to back defeats in the league.

Chelsea slumped to a 3-1 defeat against Brighton despite being in control of the game in the first half, before they once again committed an act of self sabotage.

It now means the Blues have just eight points from a possible 18, and the pressure is set to really build on Maresca.

Alan Shearer believes Enzo Maresca is under pressure

Chelsea played well in the first half and Enzo Fernandez gave them a deserved 1-0 lead, whilst they limited Brighton to next to nothing.

However, for the second week running the game changed after a red card, this time Trevoh Chalobah getting sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

Maresca again went defensive with his substitutions, with Danny Welbeck eventually scoring the equaliser as Chelsea tried to protect their lead.

It appeared the Blues were going to hold out for a draw, but more defensive errors saw them concede twice in stoppage time.

Maresca is expected to once again deliver Champions League football for Chelsea, but Shearer feels after back to back defeats he’s under pressure.

“I think as a Chelsea manager, once you accept that position, you know that you are under pressure if you lose matches – and they’ve lost two,” he told BBC Match of the Day.

“That’s the rule of management, I guess, but more so when you are at Chelsea.

“You can’t lose games and they’ve now lost two so I think you understand the situation.”

Chelsea now face a huge week before the October international break with two massive games against Benfica and Liverpool.
