Aggie Beever-Jones scored her seventh goal for England in their 3-0 win over Australia, and her stats for club and country present a strong case towards why she should start for the Lionesses heading into the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
Chelsea striker Aggie Beever-Jones has become one of the best strikers in the Women’s Super League and is now starting to push Alessia Russo when it comes to the Lionesses.
The 22-year-old was a ‘super-sub’ at Chelsea before she became a regular after the ACL injury suffered by Sam Kerr in January 2024.
Since the start of the 2023-24 season, Beever-Jones has scored 24 goals in 45 WSL appearances for the Blues.
She made her first senior England appearance in a 2-1 victory over the Republic of Ireland in July 2024 and scored her first goal for the Lionesses in their 3-0 win over Belgium back in April this year.
The 2024-25 season was a year to remember for Beever-Jones, who recently won the award for top English goalscorer in that campaign.
She has had to be patient when it comes to international football, with Russo the top striker for the Lionesses over recent years.
Beever-Jones played at her first major competition at Euro 2025 and scored in the 6-1 win over Wales. However, she was used as a bench option but was unused in the final against Spain.
The 2025-26 campaign looks like it will be another excellent one for Beever-Jones, who won her first WSL Player of the Month award in September after scoring four goals in four games.
Since the start of the 2023-24 season, Aggie Beever-Jones has scored 24 WSL goals compared to her England teammate Alessia Russo’s 26.
This season, Russo has made a slow start to the WSL with just two goals in six appearances – two fewer than Beever-Jones.
Russo has deservedly been England’s top-choice striker over recent years, scoring 25 goals in 59 appearances for the Lionesses.
However, Beever-Jones has scored seven goals for the Lionesses since the start of April, compared to Russo’s four. This is even though Russo starts matches and Beever-Jones more often than not comes off the bench.
Beever-Jones has 13 caps for England, and should she continue scoring at her present rate, she will match Russo’s current total of 25 goals by around the time she hits 47 caps for the Lionesses.

Russo, though, has the edge when it comes to providing assists for her teammates. The Arsenal striker has 11 assists in all competitions for the Gunners since the start of the 2023-24 season, compared to Beever-Jones with six. Russo also has four assists for England in 2025 compared to Beever-Jones’ 0.
Beever-Jones has been more clinical in front of goal in the WSL this season. Six of her 13 shots have been on target, compared to Russo’s five in 16.
Russo has created more chances with 12 compared to Beever-Jones’ 8, but she has also been more wasteful with her passing.
The Chelsea striker has been far superior when it comes to dribbling, while their defensive statistics are similar.
Below is a full comparison of Beever-Jones vs Russo in the WSL this season.
There is a strong argument that Beever-Jones and Russo could play together, with the former starting out wide.
Although her main position is as a central striker, Beever-Jones has also played on the wing for club and country.
Against Australia, Beever-Jones played on the left wing alongside Russo and scored.
There is potentially a spot to grab for Beever-Jones on either wing, given that several of England’s wingers have struggled with injuries over recent years.
Lauren Hemp and Lauren James both missed this month’s camp with their respective injuries and have also had issues over recent seasons.
Beth Mead still makes the squad but is no longer a nailed-on starter for club or country. Mead’s Arsenal teammate Chloe Kelly, meanwhile, has been seen as more of a ‘super-sub’ option by Wiegman in 2025.
While Hemp or James would be the favourites to start on the two flanks if fit, their injury history could work against them, especially when Beever-Jones is scoring goals at the rate she is.
Beever-Jones received a lot of praise from pundits after England’s 3-0 win over Australia.
“She was so bright. She was making really good runs and making herself a nuisance,” said former England defender Anita Asante on ITV.
“She was also asking questions of Sarina because I’m sure she wants to play every single minute she can for England.”
Ian Wright added: “She’s someone who’s stepped in, even for Chelsea, with the injuries that Chelsea have had to forwards, she’s come in and she’s scored goals.
“[For England] She’s been the number two to Lessi [Alessia Russo], waiting for her chance. She’ll play anywhere up front for England. What you’ve got to do when you get into that situation is try to score a goal, to keep your name amongst it so as you can get to play – the main thing is to get to play.
“Every time she’s played – she’s ended up top scorer for England this season – she scores, she does well. She’s got the right attitude for it at the moment.”
Beever-Jones was frustrated after she came off with an injury scare in England’s victory over Australia.
However, she did offer some reassurance over her fitness, telling ITV after the game that she was ‘OK’ and would ‘get some recovery in’.
Regardless of her comments, the minor knock will give Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor something to think about when the Blues play the London City Lionesses on Saturday.
Bompastor will be keen for Beever-Jones to start against Russo’s Arsenal a week later on November 8th, in a game that could have huge ramifications when it comes to the WSL title race.
Chelsea are unbeaten after six games after going the entirety of the 2024-25 domestic season without a defeat.
