“The truth is…” – Enzo Fernandez explains his unique celebration against Napoli | OneFootball

Enzo Fernandez banged in a nice penalty to open the scoring in Chelsea’s win over Napoli on Wednesday night, and his celebration was notable.

Rather than one from his usual collection, the midfielder pointed with both hands to the sky, while he gazed at the stars.

If you were wondering what that was all about – take note of where the game was being played. Like most Argentines, especially footballers, Enzo has a strong link with Diego Maradona, the man at the heart of Napoli football club.

“I feel very connected to him. All Argentinians feel connected to him because of everything he did for our football, and for football itself on a global level,” Fernandez said of Maradona after the game.

“The truth is that scoring here was very special and obviously I was happy because we won the game and it was really important that we did.

“This is Diego’s stadium. I really identify with him. Everything he has left behind in terms of his football legacy, he’s so special to us Argentinians. Tonight, we played in his stadium, in his name. Seeing the streets here with his photo, his flag was truly incredible.”

Enzo has the chance to impress his idol even more as the competition goes on.
