Trent Alexander-Arnold has said it was 'nice to get one over' Manchester City following Real Madrid's Champions League elimination of the Premier League side.
Real Madrid won 2-1 at the Etihad on Tuesday night to secure a comfortable 5-1 aggregate win in theirChampions League last-16 tie with the Citizens.
It's the fourth time in five seasons that Real Madrid have eliminated City from Europe, while for Alexander-Arnold the win was a sweet moment.
The 27-year-old was a part of theLiverpool team that regularly competed with Pep Guardiola's side for major trophies, before his transfer to the Spanish capital last summer.
"It was satisfying to get one over Manchester City, they've nabbed a few medals from me and Liverpool," he said toTNT Sports.
"You know facing Manchester City is always going to be challenging, so we're proud of the performance.
"This is the most crucial phase of the season. Major matches are coming thick and fast, and each one feels like a final.
"The expectation at Real Madrid is to go the distance in the Champions League and triumph. It's ingrained in the very fabric of the club. We thrive on these expectations, and it helps us bring out our best qualities."
Real Madrid will face Bayern Munich or Atalanta in the Champions League quarter-finals. The German side lead 6-1 on aggregate ahead of tonight's second leg in Munich.
