Flamengo and River Plate have lodged bids for Thiago Almada, who is currently at Atlético de Madrid. According to Coluna Do Fla, agent Agustín Jiménez says the Argentine has not decided his next move.

Jiménez indicated that Almada has yet to choose which proposal he might accept in the coming weeks.

Flamengo football director José Boto travelled to Argentina at the weekend and said the trip was not solely about Almada. He stressed the club will not enter auctions for any player, and any agreement must be on Flamengo’s terms. He avoided predicting a quick resolution, saying any move depends on finances and current market conditions.

Flamengo had advanced talks and were optimistic, but River Plate returned to the frame. Inside the Rio club it is believed the delay aims to increase the figures involved and allow time for a possible offer from Europe.

The transfer window opened on 20 July and runs until 11 September. Flamengo want a major addition quickly because of the Libertadores last 16 against Cruzeiro. Clubs can register new players or make swaps until Saturday at 18:00 Paraguay time, respecting the 72-hour rule before this phase starts.
