Thiago Mendes teases Renato Gaúcho after Vasco win, says he will show his DVD | OneFootball

A run of positive results has lifted the mood at Vasco. After Sunday’s win over Athletico-PR, Thiago Mendes teased coach Renato Gaúcho on social media.

In the 15th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro at São Januário, the midfielder scored the winner. According to Globo.com, he later replied online to a message from his manager.

The coach had posted to praise the display and thank supporters, and Mendes answered with the manager’s trademark DVD jibe, telling him he would show him his DVD in a few days.

One of Renato Gaúcho’s first changes was to hand the armband, previously worn by Léo Jardim, to Mendes. He believes an outfield captain is more efficient because of proximity to the referee.

The switch has given Mendes a bolder presence, and he has taken on leadership on and off the pitch. At half-time he said he is not a Vasco academy product but sees the club as his home, wants to honour the shirt and aims high for the fans.

He added that he thinks he is on the right path and is working in the hope of being crowned with a title in this shirt. Since Renato arrived, the number 23 has four goals and one assist, with three of those strikes deciding victories.
