Fluminense confirmed on Wednesday that Thiago Silva has left the club, with both parties agreeing to terminate the defender’s contract six months early.
The 41-year-old is now a free agent, bringing his second spell with the Rio de Janeiro side to an end.
The centre-back returned to Flu in 2024 for what was billed as a final chapter, making 66 appearances and playing a key role in their run to the Club World Cup semi-finals. Despite his age, Silva remained a regular starter and was named in the Team of the Tournament.
Now, the former Chelsea, PSG and AC Milan defender is eyeing a return to Europe, with London his preferred destination. Silva is keen to relocate his family back to the capital, where his children - including son Isago Silva, who plays in Chelsea’s academy - are still based.
Silva believes he can still compete at the top level and is hopeful of securing a short-term deal, potentially in the Premier League, as he looks to keep his World Cup ambitions alive.
