A third Liverpool striker is set to announce himself under Arne Slot. The boss will be watching closely.

Liverpool brought in two elite strikers this summer, spending over £200m on the pair. Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitiké will now battle it out to be the main man at Anfield.

Ekitiké has started brilliantly, too. He's bagged four goals already, including the eventual winner against Everton on Saturday.

Isak is taking longer to show his quality but that's to be expected. The Swede didn't have a pre-season and Liverpool are correctly demonstrating patience with him.

It won't be long before he, too, is among the goals though. He's just too good to keep out.

But what Liverpool have here are two strikers of a relatively unknown quantity. They'll compete to be the leading striker but they're not the only out-and-out strikers in the squad.

There's one more and Tuesday is when he can announce himself under Arne Slot.

Jayden Danns is back

Jayden Danns has about as difficult a job as you can have in elite football right now. He plays for a club that uses one centre-forward and there's £200m worth of player in front of him.

Getting games will be tough and it's why Danns must take every single opportunity that comes his way. And those opportunities will come - there's a reason Liverpool ultimately decided not to loan him out this summer.

Injuries to Isak and/or Ekitiké will thrust Danns into the spotlight. As will the Carabao Cup, which Liverpool return to on Tuesday evening.

The striker is expected to feature in a must-rotated team. It's a fantastic chance to announce himself under Slot this season and get his name in the mix.

Danns appeared four times last season, scoring one goal, but it was a difficult season for him. The teenager started with an injury, keeping him out until November and then another injury ruined a loan spell with Sunderland to end the campaign.

This time around, Danns will hope to keep fit and stay a part of the group consistently. A goal and a solid performance against Southampton would do just that - and maybe add a third centre-forward to the battle for the Reds' top spot.

He is a 19-year-old with three goals in nine appearances, after all. There's an incredibly talented player in there who will threaten Southampton.

Of course, it'll take a lot more than that to actually secure game time over Isak and Ekitiké but Danns mustn't let himself be forgotten this season. That starts on Tuesday as he tries to force his way in.
